Custom tuned G/D lachenal replica 21-key

This was an unusual commission, to create a custom tuned 20-key concertina to complement the owner's collection of C/G lachenal concertinas, to allow him to play in other keys. Since the custom tuning omitted the low G on the LH side, I added this as a drone button under the left thumb. All reeds are from a vintage Paolo Soprani Accordion.

This concertina proves a point; you do not need to use tropical hardwoods to make concertinas! The exposed wood is a lovely piece of elm, with the insides in sycamore, all native UK timber. It has a riveted brass action and a button polish finish. Bellows are by P. O'Connor.

Ebenezer, a "steampunk" concertina!

This is one of my own projects, not a commission. It's a miniature 30-key concertina, tuned Eb, using steel reeds cut from a German concertina. It's a lot easier to fit these reeds into a small instrument, and accordion reeds would be too powerful for the intended purpose - playing with a harp tuned in the same key.

The style is American and "steampunk", using polished brass with black walnut and maple, the fretwork design includes butterflies, machines, ships, seamonsters and lightning!
